The scientific excellence of Hangeul, uninfluenced by the origins of world language characters

The origins of world language writing are generally considered to have begun with the cuneiform script invented by the Sumerians of Mesopotamia around 3400 BCE and recorded on clay tablets, and the hieroglyphs of ancient Egypt. These two systems developed and became the basis for various writing systems, including the Chinese characters of East Asia and alphabets derived from the Phoenician alphabet. In particular, the modern European alphabet developed from the Phoenician alphabet, a simplified form of the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, through Greece and Rome.

However, among all the writing systems in the world, there is one that has its own unique existence, not originating from either Egyptian hieroglyphs or Chinese characters (oracle bone script): Korea's "Hangeul."

Hangeul (hangul)

Hangeul(Hangul) is a writing system created by King Sejong, the fourth king of the Joseon Dynasty, in December 1443. It is a significant and great writing system that lowered the illiteracy rate by making it easier for Koreans, who had previously used difficult Chinese characters, to write and read.

It is considered the world's only original and scientific writing system created by a king for the people. Its scientific nature reflects pronunciation principles in its letter shapes, and its ability to express many sounds with a small number of letters makes it efficient. Furthermore, its fast character creation and recognition speeds make it ideal for the modern digital environment. It also boasts a clear history and is easy to learn.

And Hangeul can express any sound in the world with letters. While English can express only five vowels A, E, I, O, U Hangul can create ten basic vowels plus dozens of compound vowels. So, while the 26 letters of the alphabet can express hundreds of sounds, Hangeul's 24 letters can express around 11,000 sounds. Japanese has around 300 sounds, and Chinese characters around 400 a vastly different number.

UNESCO recognized the excellence of Hangeul by designating it as a 'World Documentary Heritage' in 1997 and awarding the 'King Sejong Literacy Prize' named after King Sejong.

King Sejong, the creator of Hangeul, suffered from severe health problems due to the excessive workload and stress he endured during the creation of Hangeul. He suffered from various ailments, including obesity, diabetes, poor eyesight, and back pain. In particular, his eye disease worsened to the point of near-blindness, and by his later years, he was believed to have suffered from a disease that nearly rendered him blind.

Thus, King Sejong was a ruler with a compassionate heart, deeply empathizing with the suffering of his people. To commemorate this king and the creation of Hangeul, October 9th is designated as a national holiday in Korea.

What Countries Receiving Chinese Support Should Be Wary of

Developing countries to which China provides various forms of aid, including infrastructure, finance, and food assistance through policies like the Global Development Initiative (GDI) will naturally see an increase in the influx of Chinese nationals. This increases the likelihood that Chinese criminal organizations will easily disguise themselves and operate freely.

This is one reason to be wary of Chinese capital inflows.

Please improve China's image.

Furthermore, the police there are often corrupt and have deep connections between Chinese criminals and high-ranking politicians, making security untenable.

A significant number of Chinese criminals are hiding in Southeast Asian countries, particularly those close to China.

Myanmar, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia are prime examples. They are also connected to various international criminal organizations,

and it's likely their influence is spreading to other Latin American and African countries, where China provides various cooperation and financial support.

It has been revealed that a Chinese national in Cambodia has been committing employment fraud against Koreans over the past three years, and has been imprisoning, kidnapping, torturing, and murdering them.

The fraud ring, which generates funds equivalent to half of Cambodia's GDP, holds significant influence in Cambodia and has deep political connections.

Without a unified international voice, it appears unlikely that this will be eradicated.

China's Wise Responsibility

Furthermore, China, which seeks to increase its influence in the world, should not only provide aid to developing countries, but also closely monitor criminals escaping from China and use various methods to root them out before they commit evil acts in developing countries. This is China's wise responsibility for the international crimes committed by Chinese criminals.

These days, Cambodia has a bad image among Koreans and its popularity is declining.

Cambodia, located in the southwestern part of the Indochina Peninsula, was once popular with Korean travelers due to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Angkor Wat. However, as pro-Chinese forces within Cambodia grow, Chinese and Chinese companies are increasingly expanding their presence in Cambodia. Furthermore, former South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol significantly expanded unnecessary aid to Cambodia, wasting taxpayer money unnecessarily. Furthermore, with the recent rise in kidnappings and murders targeting Koreans, Cambodia has become a country disliked by Koreans.

Impeached president Yoon Suk-yeol changed the people's tax money into another name and provided support to the Cambodian government. During his term, the Korean government significantly increased the limit on official development assistance (ODA) loans to Cambodia from the existing $700 million to $3 billion by 2030 on two occasions.

This is because of a request from the head of the Unification Church (Family Federation for World Peace and Unification) headquarters, who provided money and valuables under the guise of a gift to Kim Keon-hee, Yoon Suk-yeol's wife. The Unification Church was seeking to further expand its influence by purchasing key land along the Mekong River. The Unification Church also has close ties to President Donald J.T and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was assassinated by a citizen who harbored a grudge against the church.

The controversy arose on November 12, 2022, when, during President Yoon Suk-yeol's Southeast Asian tour, First Lady Kim Keon-hee, instead of participating in the spouses' program, visited a Cambodian hospital and a child at home. She was likely imitating a photo of Audrey Hepburn taken at the Baidoa UNICEF feeding center during a 1992 relief effort in Somalia.

In October 2025, South Korea is embroiled in controversy over crimes against Koreans in Cambodia. The torture death of a Korean national who had traveled to Cambodia has sparked criticism that the South Korean government failed to prevent the situation.

Critics have pointed out that the ambassador to Cambodia appointed during the Yoon Suk-yeol administration focused solely on Official Development Assistance (ODA). The Cambodian ODA issue is currently under investigation by prosecutors amid allegations that former President Yoon Suk-yeol's wife, Kim Keon-hee, former CEO of Cobana Contents, was involved in business requests.

The number of reported kidnappings of Koreans in Cambodia was 1 in 2022, 17 in 2023, 220 in 2024, and 340 this year as of August 2025.

Ambassador Park Jung-wook, who assumed his post in January 2023, served as Ambassador to Cambodia for two years and six months until July 17, 2025. During this period, crimes against Koreans in Cambodia increased sharply, and it is unlikely he will be able to avoid responsibility.

Three Chinese nationals have been indicted on charges of murder and other offenses in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a Korean college student in his 20s in Cambodia.

Most of the suspects who commit crimes against Koreans in Cambodia are Chinese. It is presumed that most of the crimes are committed in casino cities such as Prince Estates, Sihanoukville, and Bavet, which were built with Chinese capital by Prince Holding Group, a Chinese company with close ties to former Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen. As business declined due to COVID-19, they have expanded and kidnapped Koreans through job scams, forced them into voice phishing work, and tortured and killed them if they resist.

As such, corruption among Cambodian politicians and police is so rampant that rooting out criminals and their criminal networks, even with the Cambodian government's assistance, appears unlikely.

As kidnappings by Cambodian criminal networks continue to surface, the Korean police are discussing with Cambodian authorities the establishment of a Korean desk dedicated to crimes against Koreans, with Korean officers dispatched locally. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has raised the travel advisory for all of Cambodia to 'Caution', for Phnom Penh to 'Refrain', and for some provinces bordering Laos and Thailand to 'Special Travel caution'.
